Why 2020-21 were our best giving years ever

At Amway, giving back to our local communities is a part of our history and DNA.  So when difficult times came, we stepped up our efforts to make sure vulnerable people in our communities were not left behind.

Compassion and a duty of care for communities
John Haines, Affiliate Leader for Amway Australia & New Zealand said, “We’ve always felt a deep sense of responsibility to our local communities. People are at the heart of this business; by giving back we’ve continued to strengthen our ties with community and some incredible charities to make sure that no one is left behind, especially during the pandemic.”

Since 2007, Amway has donated more than $1.2 million in goods and cash to local communities in Australia and New Zealand. The company also partnered with Australian charities to help those most in need, especially children.

“The Amway Australia team has shown amazing resilience and community spirit. I’m so proud of all that we’ve accomplished as a team and business especially during the last year. We were a finalist in ‘The Giver’ category of the 2020 Direct Selling Australia (DSA) Industry Awards. We couldn’t be more delighted with this recognition of our giving efforts,” said John.

Staff donated time and money
In 2020-2021, Amway and its staff supported various charities with their time and raised money to help the charities’ efforts. Over $80,000 has been donated with more donations earmarked for the end of the year.

The Amway Australia team generously donated their time to Clean Up Australia Day held on 5 March 2021. 17 Amway Staff participated and collected 10.5 bags amounting to over 21kg of rubbish from the area surrounding Chatswood Oval.

During the pandemic, the company donated 50,000 meals to essential workers and people doing it tough. A tremendous effort by staff and OzHarvest volunteers!

Staff organised a morning tea for Cancer Council Australia and donated many new, unused items, unopened gifts and baked goods for the charity auction and raffle prizes. The $5,000 donation will assist with the SunSmart school program, research, prevention and support programs for those affected by cancer.

We didn’t forget our animal friends during the pandemic. Amway donated $6,000 to the Foundation for National Parks & Wildlife (FNPW) – Gift a Tree Campaign.

Supporting Australian farmers
The Amway team raised more than $15,000 for Rural Aid through a creative mix of ideas.

“We know that more than 10,000 of our IBOs live on farms or in rural Australia and many employees also grew up on farms, so our personal connection to rural Australia compelled us to help. Everyone enjoyed coming together for a great cause. We were glad to have done our bit for the farmers,” said John.

To continue supporting the fantastic work being done by Rural Aid, Amway also donated $1 from every ARTISTRY® Skin Nutrition™ product sold to Rural Aid to help provide water to farming families. A total of $5,230 was donated to Rural Aid. Every $450 provided 11,500 liters of water and helped supply over 133,655 liters to families in rural areas.

Supporting the future
Amway believes that investing in future generations is also good for the planet. “Seeing Australian children live up to their full potential is a shared value and purpose of Amway and Life Education,” said John.

In 2021, the company donated $40,000 to help deliver the FEAST Program to 10 schools across Australia. Delivered via OzHarvest, Australia’s leading food rescue organisation, the cooking program teaches kids to eat healthy, waste less and be change-makers in their local community.

Amway also supports Life Education which teaches thousands of children each year to make safe choices about their health and wellbeing through education, new technologies and their mascot Healthy Harold.
“We’ve donated $27,500 to help deliver preventative health and nutrition education to 2,500 school children so they can make good choices when it comes to eating and health,” said John.

Amway’s Power of 5 campaign ensures children don’t die of malnutrition before the age of five. Amway created NUTRILITE™ Little Bits, a micronutrient supplement for malnutrition enhanced with plant nutrients. A 1 gram packet contains 15 essential vitamins and minerals that, when mixed with any food, helps provides the essential nutrients children under age five need to survive and thrive.

500,000+ children received daily nutrition support through the Power of 5 Campaign in 2019.

Recently, Amway chose to support the Salvation Army’s Just Brass Program which transforms young lives through music.

“This music program aims to develop young leaders by providing free brass music lessons to children from disadvantaged schools. It helps them build up their confidence, self-esteem, teamwork and abilities to thrive in school and excel in all areas of their lives. The $23,000 donation helped fund Oberon Primary School’s and Mandama Primary School’s music programs – where a total of 40 students were able to receive all equipment, instruments; and schools enabled to employ a tutor,” said John.

“We couldn’t have done all these wonderful things without the support of staff. I’m grateful to them and our incredible charity partners. We can look back at 2021 proudly and know that as a company, as a team, we’ve made a difference in many lives,” said John.
